My Dying Words
Entry #103– Medical Update
March 15, 2024
Medical Update: Despite today’s date (March 15: “Beware of the Ides of March”), I would like to offer a thanksgiving. My last treatment was on Wednesday, February 7, a little more than 5 weeks ago. And, finally, just in the past several days, a few of my chemo side effects have begun to abate. I actually had to start shaving again (okay, only occasionally, and that change is not a big reversal). More important, I am developing a little more energy. Whereas last weekend I fell asleep on our screened in porch with my head hanging down for an hour (and so got a crick in my neck briefly), yesterday I ran some errands then came home and mowed the grass for the first time this season. I know many would think that chore more a curse, but it was a wonderful blessing to me. I was pretty much done by the evening, but, nonetheless, the whole day bordered on the miraculous. Of course, many symptoms remain, e.g., my bp this morning was 142/95, with a heart rate of 107 (yeah, thanks chemo). But, I still am grateful to my God for His kindness in granting me some relief, and would thank all those who have prayed for and encouraged me these past 3 years. It’s wonderful to see the salvation of our God, and to receive some small, even if only temporary glimpse of His final, complete, and permanent reversal of the curse on not only our bodies, but on our entire world. What a great hope and joy we have, don’t we? We can never be discouraged or defeated if we meditate on that great future!
